Best color to coordinate with taupe bedset?

Our new comforter set is taupe, brown-based. The walls and trim in our bedroom are stark white, (we haven't lived here very long), and the furniture is dark walnut. The walls are hung with Francois Boucher tapestries. As our dresser is a huge antique Eastlake, complete with oversized mirror, and tends to dominate the room, I don't want too light a color.

Your dresser is 19th century and colors used in that period were greens, dark reds and mustard golds. Your tapestries are from the 18th century and colors were lighter, more delicate, pastel colors. Both periods were romantic.
Your dresser is dominating the room because of the high contrast with the white walls so it will make the dresser appear larger than it is. It pops out at you so you need it to blend into the wall more.
I don't know what is going on with your floors but if it were me, I would find a common color in your tapestries and pull from there. Any brown based red, green or blue will help your dresser stand out less and pop the color from the tapestries.
If your room doesn't get a lot of light, choose from the warmer red family. If it gets a lot of light, then choose from the calmer, cooler blue or green family. Remember that even though green and blue are considered cool colors there are warm and cool greens and blues.
With the walnut, it should be casting off a warm hue of red, orange or gold so I think I would lean towards the red family.
Look at some of these typical Victorian colors since you mentioned that you do not want to go too light. They are all Sherwin Williams.
