The question is:
"The speedometer on your vintage Daewoo Leganza is set to be accurate with your new Hancook P175/70TR13 tires. Find the number of rotations of your new tires in one hour if you are driving at 35mph. Width in millimeters is 185. height/width aspect ratio is 75. diameter is 14 inches.
note: the diameter number is for the inside of the tire. You need the overall diameter for the outside of the tire. Overall diamter = inside diameter + 2*aspect ratio/100*width/25.4
For the tire: 14 + 2*75/100*185/25.4=24.9inches
Can someone please explain how to do this problem? Hopefully with using linear/angular velocity. V=rw and the omega formula, if you have any idea what im talking about..
OK, let's say you have the correct outside diameter for the tire. Therefore the circumference of the tire is (pi)d = 78.2256 inches.
One mile = 5280 feet x 12 inches = 63360 inches/mile
63360/78.2256 = 809.965 revolutions per mile.
35 x 809.965 = 28348.78 revolutions per hour
