Watch Band

I wondering if any kind of lotion or something can be put on a plastic/rubber/resin sports watch band every so often to prevent it from drying out and cracking too soon?
I know that oil-based lubricants are bad for condoms, because they break down the latex. I'm not sure if a typical sports watch band is similar, such that oil or oil-based lotions would make the problem worse. Any ideas for making these watchbands last longer?
Ultraviolet light and your body oils speed it up. keep it clean is about all you can realisticly do. I have bought many watches for the same reason.
