What are some key pieces to "preppy" style?

Title is self-explanatory

Actual "preps" wouldn't dare touch anything from A&F, hollister, or any of those stores, their sloppy clothes that are made poorly.
Okay, so key pieces:
- at least 1 polo
- at least 1 pair of straight leg boot cut jeans
- some type of flat (the shoe lol)
- cardigan
- tennis skirts or a knee lenght a-line skirt
