Does anybody know the best/safest way to remove nail polish from gold-plated jewelry?

My gf had her necklace (that was her grandmother's) in the same bag as some red nail polish. The nail polish bottle broke, and now she has a red necklace. It would mean a lot to her if she could wear it again. Thanks!

nail polish remover will do the trick just do it alittle at a time and get some metal polish to shine it back up afterwards.
