Antique Solid

We live in a very old home and it has beautiful antique solid spruce french doors on the interior. The problem is that large gaps have developed between each of the two sets of doors. (in the middle, where the doors meet)... and we lose a lot of heat this way. I don't want to use tape, since it would damage the wood. Are there permanent, attractive solutions for sealing between doors, as opposed to around the frame?
My french doors have a strip of wood about 1" x 3/8" attached to the back edge of one of the doors where they meet to cover the gap between the two. You can also put some weatherstripping on it to make a good seal.
