The prof is right, Mechanical Energy was NOT conserved since bounce height not = original height. So, what you are looking for is unclear. Here is another solution:

PE = KE Before bounce (Energy conserved until bounce)

PE = MGH = .760 Kg * 9.8 m/s^2 * 1.75 m = 13.034 J

KE = 13.034 J

KE = 0.5 M V^2 = 0.5 * .76Kg * V^2 = 13.034

V^2 = 13.034 /(0.5*0.76) = 34.31

V = 5.86 m/s

Could be information after bounce is a "red herring" to confuse you. Until the bounce, energy is conserved. If that is a requirement of the solution, my solution is correct (assuming my math is OK. Better check it)

OR

d = 0.5*A*T^2 (assume earth gravity)

1.75 = 0.5 * 9.8 * T^2

T^2 = 1.75/(0.5*9.8) = 1.75/4.9 = 0.36

T = 0.6

V = AT = 9.8 * .6 = 5.88 m/s
